ending stigma, raising awareness

Reflections on the 5K...

First off, we want to thank the community for their support. Race day was a huge success, but it never could have been so without your help. On the behalf of our organization, thank you all.  Thank you to all our sponsors, listed below, for helping us along the way and making the 5K successful.

With 150 people registered, and an attendance total of almost 200, the Run and Walk for Mental Health Awareness was a bigger success than we could have ever imagined. When we started out, our main goal was to make an impact here at home. When choosing this cause, we noticed that mental health illnesses tend to carry a stigma. Many people do not realize the negative impact these illnesses have on people’s lives; some people do not even believe that mental health illnesses are even real. Our goal was to raise awareness about this very real problem that affects millions each year and to help raise money for the  Helen Ross McNabb Center, which is dedicated to serving those who suffer from these unfortunate illnesses.

The turnout and response from the community shows us that we can all come together to help each other.  We are so grateful for all the people who registered and all the local businesses that showed up and supported as well.  Together, we took a step forward on May 22nd, 2016, in ending the stigma and raising mental health awareness. We took a step forward in making our world a better place for the future. We hope to continue making a difference!
